It has been 65 years since the great war. The memories of those who remember are still tainted with the memories of the pain and suffering of thier comrades, the misery of the long battles, the hell they endured. Yet some groups' bloodlust goes unsatisfied, some still hold thier petty grudges and still seek revenge.
65 years ago, the Kingdom of Jal'Nareth declared war on the Unizian Republic in what the king believed was for the good of the world, after the Unizians allegedly laid waste to the Jal'Nareth ally, Gnoma. The devastation of the gnomes was so horrible, Jal'Nareth felt it could not like the Unizians go unpunished. For 15 bloody violent years, they waged war. The Unizians denied all involvement in Gnoma's sacking, and felt wrongfully attacked by the Jal'Nareth Kingdom. It took a battle so horrible that it made Gnoma's destruction look like a childish skrimish- the battle of the Deadlands. Thousands upon Thousands fell there, eventually bringing them to an uneasy truce.
50 years have passed, and the uneasy truce still continues. The Unizian Republic has elected a new leder, and King Harvey grows old. New people are coming into power, yet what shall they do with it?
Thanks to Myst Erik Ery for the improved, less painful map.
1. Balrakserd Mountains- These harshe mountains are the territory of the Dwarves. While the rigid cliffs and weather make day to day life here unpleasant for most races, a few dwarves do call these mountains home. Even dwarves who do not call the mountain home, it is considered a major rite of passage to scale the mountain to summit at least once in thier lifetimes. Dwarven patrols have been struggling in recent years, as various tribes of goblins from the savage lands have begun migrating onto the cliffs and
attacking dwarf homes.
2- Kilkralthen- The Home country of the Dwarves and currently the gnomes, it ison the cutting edge of technology for the known world. The hardworking nature of the dwarves has not conflicted with the innovation of the gnomes, in fact, it has catalyzed it. The gnomes have combined thier knowledge of alchemy and magic with the dwarves resources to develop gunpowder weapons such as muskets and revolvers, althought thier production methods haven't been perfected, hence making the weapons availible for only the wealthy ariostocrat. They have also invented the steam engine, and have constructed rail roads along thier countries. The Council of Elders, the governing body of Kilkralthen, is negotiating with other countries in hopes to bring thier technology to the rest of the known world. Kilkralthen tries to remain neutral when dealing with conflicts of other nations, and will only go to war if they are directly threatened, with no imperialist motives. The Country of Kilkralthen is a very mountainous region in itself, but by no means as as rigid and harsh as the Balrakserds. The Capital of Morbirgan, like the other towns and villiages of the region is built into these mountains.
3- The Ruins of Gnoma- 65 years ago, a horrible strategy befell The Nation of Gnoma. At the time The Gnomes of Gnoma had an alliance with Jal'Nareth. Before the great war begun, across the land, one could see the fires of battle raging above the country endlessly for 3 days. Before the Jal'Nareths or the Dwarves could respond, it seemed the battle was over. When the Dwarves arrived at the ruins, they found a brutal massacure, thousands of unfortunate corpses littering the land, the gnomish farmlands still smoldering mess, and thier villiages completely leveled. The few gnomes still walking the land were catatonic, in complete shock. It took years for them to recover, yet no gnome who experienced the assault recalls any of it. The Jal'Nareths blamed the Uzinians for the attack, which was the final straw that started the great war. The Uzinians, to this day, deny any part of the attack.
4-The Kingdom of Jal'Nareth- The nation of humans led by thier old, wise, and honorable warrior king, King Harvey. King Harvey's reign has lasted for 80 years thus far, he started when he was only a youthful squire. He did not feel the great war should of ended until the Uzinian Council was executed for thier foul crimes against Gnoma, but he chose to withdraw after the infamous battle of the former Jal'Nareth forests, feeling so many lives were not worth vengeance. Jal'Nareth is a fairly rural country, with it's only large city being it's capital, Gregorian. Gregorian is known for the massive Castle of King Harvey, with it's main tower keep reaching into the sky, it is said one can speak with the gods from the top. The Successor the aging Harvey's throne is Prince Jarret, who has yet to be seen in the public eye. Jal'Nareth's land is mostly flat, farming land.
5-The Uzinian Republic- In the eyes of the Jal'Nareth, the Uzinians are the agressors of the great war, but in the Uzinian eyes, they are the victim, the defending nation of a so-called honorable nation's attacks. Uzinia is an industrious country, with a good deal of the country working in factories and mines, however, it's agricultural roots still hold true. Uzinia has various large cities scattered about, but the capital of Zagfey is the largest. It is the 2nd largest city in the world, second to Kasios City. Zagfey is ruled by a Counselor appointed by the Aristocracy. Currently in power is a nationalistic young aristocrat named Jack Niander. Zagfey has a huge subterranean sewer system which is used for both waste disposal as well as corpse disposal. Uniznia's landscape is mostly woodlands.
6-The Savage Nations- The Savage Nations aren't really nations. Really, they aren't even united in anyway. Most of the savages of the land can be found here, looked down on by the rest of the world, and the savages sneer viciously back. Anyone from the Civilized lands is more or less kill on sight in this area, as the savages aren't much for the "city people" as there called, and thier antics of attempting to talk thier ways off. Thier residents include, but not limited to: Savage Humans, Half-Orcs, Orcs, Goblins, Kobolds and savage dwarves. The tribes and clans of the reason are notorious for thier raids on Aridia, Uniznia, and the Balrakserd Mountains. The Geography of the reason is a vast plains and hills..
7-The Dead Lands- Where the final battle between Jal'Nareth and Unizia took place in the Great War. Formerly a beutiful forest under the rule of Jal'Nareth, the land has become an accursed no-man's land, with the land stinking of rotting human flesh, bones littering the wastelands, and a completely barren land. The stench of death here is so foul that border towns can still be sickened by it's putridness on particulary windy days. The few adventurers brave enough to tread onto this land have claimed visions of various tortured souls wandering, looking for an eternal rest that will not come. The battle here raged on endlessly for 3 months, and the devastation brought the nations into an uneasy truce.
8-The Kingdom of Aridia- A kingdom in the desert, it seeks to remain neutral for the good of it's people. Queen Maria is the benevolent Monarch of the area, and seeks only to maintain the law, order, and well-being of it's own people. It's adamant neutralness has costed them however...
9- The Federation of Kasios- Formerly a part of the Aridia Kingdom, it suceeeded 60 years ago when it demanded independence from it's desert capital, when the shrewd merchants of the former southern Aridian kingdom saw there was money to be made in the Jal'Nareth/Unizian conflict- peddling to both countries violated Aridia's strict stance of neutrality. The Northern Aridian Kingdom demanded they stop trading, but their limited military might was simply no match for the Kasios's Merchant's vast Mercenary army. Kasios is the leading trader of the world, known for it's vast bazaars and shops where you could find anything your heart desired, as long as your heart was willing to part with much gold. Kasios City is the capital and is the largest city in the world, a vast urban sprawl. The Federation is strictly controlled by the merchants, and he who has the most money, has the most power. Kasios is also known for having the finest trade Mercenaries in the world, which decimated the Jal'Nareth Navy when they did find out about the double arms peddling.
10- Feyan Forests- The Home of the Elves, and allies of the Jal'Nareth nation. The Elven Elder Erilan has been an ally with the nation ever since Harvey's great grandfather rescued him from an Orc's lair as an child. Despite his advisor's continuing disapproval with the alliance, Erilan stands by the human nation. The Feyan Forests, are, well...Forests. Thick deep forests that elves tend to like to live in. The Elves typically live thier lives care free and keep themselves isolated from the rest of the world. There is no true capital, as each villiage has an elder, ussually a venerable druid, and the chief Elder Erilan wanders the country side spreading his wisdom.
11- Endless Ocean- This is an ocean. It has a lot of water. A lot of fish live here. Might be a sea monster or two or something.
Not the best story I know, but I believe it should be a good enough playground for a good game
