“What a miserable turn of events...” Zohar declared, assisting one of his students to his feet.
“Do you still intend to defy Lambert?” Kroitz questioned, stepping up behind him. Zohar sighed and thought long and contemplatively. Bolgrim stood, using the cloth from Landis's gear to clean his blade before sheathing it. He sneered at Zohar, keeping his hand on his hilt.
Kirin reloaded his gun and stood aside to him. “You don't got much left, old man. Be one hell of a spectacular failure of a civil war if you keep going.”
“He did send you didn't he?” said Zohar, still not meeting any of their eyes. “Can you tell me this much?”
“That he did. He doesn't want this city to be coated with blood, even if it would be for his own victory.” Kroitz responded. “You could call it sabotage, but it's sabotage in the best possible intention.”
“Plus those guys were assholes.” elegantly added Kirin.
“That as well. You have to have a head for reason, Lord Zohar.”
“Hmm...” pondered Zohar. “If you're indulging me with information, would you care to explain what exactly Kasians are doing foiling other Kasians?”
“You already know far more than we should of told you...” a low angry mumbling from the back lets out. “Taking everything in my power not to cut you down. This is all your folly, damned wizard...”
“Are you trying to start even more fights?” Mase reprimanded.
“No...No...I understand him. Damn.” Zohar shook his head.
“Well? What now?” Kroitz eyed him from the side.
“I have disgraced my profession with this blunder. My belief still holds true that Lambert is unfit to lead this country, but my campaign has been unsuccessful. For that, I concede defeat to him.”
“After kicking the damn Kasians out and that, you may redeem yourself yet. Still hate you.” The dwarf snidely remarked.
“And what of you?” Kroitz said, ignoring Bolgrim's anti-wizardry ramblings.
“I am going to take my leave of Zagfey. The best I can do to save my own reputation is a self-imposed exile.” He let out another sigh, and began to walk to his door, but stopped. “My cause is not yet defeated though, and you may tell Lambert all of this. You have my thanks however from preventing me from committing a horrible mistake.”
“Don't want the Kasians running everything anymore than you do.”
“No one really does. Farewell.” He disappears down the stairwell, leaving the five alone.
“See? There can be a peaceful resolution to everything. You just have to really try.” Isha comments.
Mase silently looks around at the wreck of a scene with destroyed windows and countless bodies on the floor, including the grizzly death of Lars. “Yeah...whatever you need to tell yourself.”
“Think you could hurry the process along?” Mase questioned, standing across from Lambert who sat behind the desk. Behind him were his two guards, Stevens and Gerome.
“Doing my best to make it so. I really don't want to be in charge anymore than you do.” said Lambert.
“City isn't over run with scum or burning down. Can't say you're the worst guy for the job.” Kroitz mumbled.
“The absolute power thing makes people a bit uneasy is all I'm saying.” Mase continued.
“Necessary evil. When they heard of the fall of the magocracy five years ago, whole country thought that was it's license to take to anarchy. I'm a man of the law and I think we need to use it to restore order and stamp out the last bits of chaos and rebellion before we can truly move on.”
“Slippery slope though. Be careful with that.”
“Anythings better than wizards...” Bolgrim averted his eyes from his companions, knowing they may be growing annoyed with his anti-magic ramblings, especially Isha, who stuck her tongue out at him.
“I'll do what I can. You can tell Styles I thank him for his assistance. If it wasn't for your meddling, probably would have a drunkard in this chair at the moment.” Lambert bowed as best he could without standing up. Maybe he's just lazy.
“We shall, but I don't think he minds. Keep up the good work of the city not burning to the ground.” Kroitz also gave a half-hearted yet respectful bow, as the five left the room and then the city with it's benign tyrant.
