In the dead of night, they attacked the Slaver’s dungeon and proceeded to quickly overcome the odds of the staff of desk jockeys and dungeon guards. Finding the enslaved Orenoroans gave you incentive to continue your murderous rampage, with one of the newer slaves pointing you downstairs as the place of the keys and the records for this place.
With the ogre and the slave yard supervisor disposed of, you move quickly to sack the offices. You find the ring of keys, and Kroitz quickly sets off to relieve the enslaved of their rusty iron wristbands. The majority of them are still surprised they have a way of escaping this hell, but remain in the hole, confused on what to do next. If they were to simply leave the dungeons, they would draw much attention to themselves, as they are not incredibly pale and elven.
“I am Brandy Busch, attendant to her highness, Maria Moore, former Queen of Aridia.” The only recently enslaved girl speaks, now free from her bonds. “It was my duty to guide Maria and keep her out of harms way these past five years. She spent much of her time traveling around Orenero and seeping in the people and the culture of the region, and doing what she called living life for once, after being cooped up in the castle for the majority of her life. For the most part, my job was not particularly difficult. Maria’s pretty sharp, and knows how to deal for people. But the few times someone got a bit anxious, I was there to make sure they didn’t accidentally commit regicide. But this time… I’m failing my duties.” She continues on.
“We were simply taking a ship between Hilan and Seaborne, and then these damnable elves attacked our ship. I hid Maria and myself, but they slaughtered most of the crew and captured the few they didn’t slaughter. It was only a matter of time before they found us. They brought us here and left us here to rot. Here they just break your spirit and try to make you into model slaves until someone ultimately comes and buys you. And this leads to how we were separated.”
“From what I’d judge, some aristocrats of this godsforskaen country visited this yard to replace. I overheard, keeping my knowledge of their language a secret from them. These were some very big time people here- and they were apparently looking for cooks and chefs of some sort. The slave keeper here brought them Maria, and I suppose she resembles a human grandmother to them, they bought her and led her off. May Cuthbert help their souls…”
“There’s a reason Styles has barred her from entering the kitchen- of course he cites her own safety, but she cooked for Styles once when he was a boy. And that once was enough for him. Which, of course, means we must hurry. Too much of her cooking, and I have no idea what they’re going to do to her.”
She follows you and begins pouring over the books, after raiding the cellar of the dungeon for a few things that she claims belong to her- a longsword, a shortsword, some leather armor, and some clothes, complaining that the rags they make people wear here are completely hideous. Additionally, the other freed slaves seem to strike like vultures on the fallen slavers, arming themselves with their swords and shields and armor, even if they’re ridiculously oversized and they don’t seem to be holding the swords or shields right. They nervously look towards you to lead them to safety- or doom.
As you look through the records, there is no obvious answer where Maria is located as no names or images are used to record where slaves are sent- only numbers. But with some brainwork and Brandy’s knowledge, you figure out that when Maria was sold off, about 2 days ago, you have an idea of where Maria may be found. At the end of this horrible town on the south end of town lies a white castle. The governing figure, whatever they may call him, resides there. You believe he is the one who bought Maria from this place, and if you want to recover her before her complete lack of expertise in the field of food preparation gets her killed, it is there where you must go.
As you loot the armory of the slave yard’s guards, this is what you find.
-Heavy Flail+1
-Chain Shirt +1
-Amulet of Health+2
- A strange dual ended wand. One end is light blue, while the other is dark red. It glows with both positive and negative energy. The elven runes on it translate as: “A magical implement in the shape of a stick for a person who disciplines and cares for people who are currently under servitude and receiving no restitution for their services and commonly kept under poor conditions that may act them unfavorably but you do not want to kill them because if they are dead they do not sell for very much money.” This name does not stick with you well as catchy, and it doesn’t seem to do much right off.
Lv0: It’s a decent paperweight.
Lv1: 25/25 charges. You may recharge these charges by focusing your own magic into the wand. A 1st Level spell focused will restore 1 charge, a 2nd level spell will restore 2 charges. Orisons cannot be focused into it. Focusing a charge is a move action. The charges may be used to cast two spells- Cure Light Wounds(Light Blue), and Inflict Light Wounds(Dark Red), and are cast normally from a wand- CL 1.
Lv2: Renewal: Every day the wand will restore charges of it’s own equal to the level of the item, but the maximum charges will never exceed 25. +1 on Attack Rolls for Touch Attacks.
Lv3: You may cast two more spells from the item- Cure Moderate Wounds and Inflict Moderate Wounds. Casting each of these spells will drain 2 charges from the wand. CL3.
Lv4: Conductor: You may use the wand to empower your own divine spells. When casting a spell normally, you may drain a charge from the wand to add a bonus of +1 to your caster level in regards to the spell you are casting. +2 on Attack Rolls for Touch Attacks.
Lv5: Cure Serious Wounds & Inflict Serious Wounds may be cast from the wand at the cost of three charges apiece. CL5.
Lv6: Will Breaker: The Will Save DCs of the Cure and Inflict spells cast through this wand increase by the level of the item. +3 on Attack Rolls for Touch Attacks.
Lv7: Cure Critical Wounds & Inflict Critical Wounds at four charges at casting. CL7.
Lv8: Superconductor: You may burn up to 5 charges of the wand to grant an equal bonus to your caster level when casting your own spells normally. +4 on Attack Rolls for Touch Attacks.
- 2 necklaces with a tube. On the tube it reads: “This is a device for scolding your animals who are under your servitude for no restitutions and are probably not being very cooperative as such and do not respond well to being talked to in a high screeching volume in our great, superior language so this device will desecrate our grand awesome lyrical language and stupidify it enough so these horrible filthy inferior beasts may somehow hope to comprehend your god-given superior right to command them, however you may also use this device if for some horrible reason you wish to understand their horrible and unsophisticated brutish grunts that may or may not pass for a language in their tiny moronic minds, turning it into a language our superior intellects can comprehend without becoming much stupider ourselves. Use sparingly, for undesirables having their garbage language translated into our beautiful wonderful language disgraces our marvelous tongue.” They could of called it a Common to Elven Translator, but that would have been too quick, wouldn’t it?
- Gold is a universal currency apparently, and this place had about 1000 of it in it’s coffers.
Additionally, Brandy has volunteered to accompnay you in recovering Maria from the Elves. But there is the matter of the mass of untrained slaves with you...
