Problem 1: Wards, wards, wonderful wards. Valdien's mausoleum is trapped with abjurations aplenty.
- Find the Path would give the correct procedure to bypass the alarms, both mundane and magical. It would not, however, help us with the tomb's living (or possibly unliving) guards.
Valletta didn't take this spell today, but she could use Miracle to duplicate it at no xp cost. Or Perun could duplicate it with Limited Wish.
Problem 2: We don't know how to freakin' open the portal.
- Find the Path *should* help with this... then again these are 4,000 year old liches with tricks, it may be a good idea to find out the standard procedure instead...
...and the standard procedure is most likely what is followed whenever a samurai is sent to guard Valdien in undeath. If we can learn of this somehow. Kind of doubt the warlock clerk would openly tell us. Detect Thoughts, anyone? Alternatively, we should ask whether any... blessed follower is going to be joining Exalted General Valdien soon.
Problem 3: More nations who hate us!
Not only are the living guards in our way, if we harm them, if our presence in the mausoleum is traceable, if we slip up in *any* way we get the whole freakin' continent of Kojin-Ro after us.
- Using any kind of brute force here would be an evil act, IMO.
- Attempting to sneak by them with Greater Invisibility could work, but would have risks, since Greater Invisibility only blocks sight. Disguises are probably not worth trying. The guards already know about the weird foreigners who want to go in.
- Dimension Door in with this party seems like a more effective option. We'll also want to either Dimension Door or teleport out immediately when we leave the subplane, before anyone can notice us.
- Spus has ruled that Gate, Plane Shift, etc. doesn't work with lich pocket dimensions. Only way to get in or out is to walk through the portal.
- Once we're inside, any noise made could alert the guards... Valletta is strongly inclined to cast silence on herself the instant we're in so we can act without drawing attention.
- We could possibly assign Victar to distract the guards with fast-talk while we make the entrance attempt (though Tongues would have to be cast on Victar first probably - another spell Valletta didn't take today. Perhaps a local temple could do it for a fee). Who knows how good he'd be at it, but then again, he might prefer the job to taking on an undead general and his army.
Problem 4: Exalted General Valdien and his Undead Army
- yeah like we're going to use anything other than brute force for this. ^_-
- getting his spellbook would be ideal, but failing that, anything he holds dear would be sufficient... heck his staff might work... possibly his sword if he has one... or maybe even his hairpin.
Forgot to ask Khyron which of the liches really treasured their hairpin. Oh, well. If he's wearing a hairpin then Aiko should steal it. >_>
